Dalit man beaten to death, allegedly by police in Sonia Gandhi's constituency

Rae Bareli, UP: In Sonia Gandhi's constituency of Rae Bareli, a Dalit man was reportedly beaten by a female policewoman after which he died.
Last night, Ram Chander, who is 60 years old, was picked up by the police after his son, Dileep, escaped from police custody. Dileep had been arrested for kidnapping a teen he wanted to marry and was being moved to Delhi for a court hearing when he ran away.

Back in his village of Johua Sarki, angry policemen collected Ram Chander from his home, allegedly upon the instructions of Ranjana Sacchaan, who is in charge of the local police station. When Ram Chander was dropped home, he was bleeding profusely. He died a few hours later.

Ram Chander's relatives blame Ms Sacchaan for his murder.

"The locals have given a complaint against the lady officer - that she allegedly beat the deceased to death. For the fairness of the investigation, she has been taken off duty. An FIR has been ordered," said Suresh Kumar, the Additional Director General of Law and Order in UP.
