Kolkata, December, 3 : Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will get a new press secretary. Debashis Bose, managing director, West Bengal SC/ST Development and Finance Corporation, will soon take over as the CM's press secretary. The post fell vacant more than a year ago when Sarit Bandopadhyay, who had been the CM's press secretary for many years, retired. Bose, an IAS officer, will hold dual charges for now.
Ex-Xavierians' philanthropy: St. Xavier's College (Cal) Alumni Association's (SXCCAA) Philanthropic Wing gifted six wheelchairs to St Joseph's Old Age Home on Wednesday on the college premises. SXCCAA also gave away three wheelchairs to St. Xavier's Kolkata Infirmary.
Logs seized: Some 2.5 lakh logs of recently-felled Sal, Baira and Akashboni trees were seized from a saw mill in Satkui, between Midnapore and Kharagpur on Thursday when a team of forest officials raided it. DFO Mrinal Kanti Mandal said mill owner Harendra Maity will be questioned.
Airport death: G D Arjun, 65, a former employee of Airport Authority of India, was found dead in a seated position near the construction site of the new terminal of the airport. Police said Arjun had been an employee of the canteen and that he used to come at his old workplace to meet his friends. A sudden cardiac arrest is suspected.
