'Successive govts have ignored farmers' interest'

Allahabad, Novermber, 8 : The successive governments in the country have failed to fix the right price for the agriculture produce of farmers. As a result, farmers are forced to sell their produce to the middlemen who exploit them to the hilt, said national general secretary of SP and deputy leader of the party in Parliament, Reoti Raman Singh. He was addressing a meeting of farmers in trans-Yamuna on Sunday.

He said though farmers produce cereals after hard labour, the BSP government does not take agricultural produce at the government purchasing centre. Singh alleged that for the past three years, Mayawati government has neither opened a single government selling centre nor made any plans for buying the agricultural products.

He said if the state government does not open a paddy purchasing centre soon, the SP would start an agitation.
