Bangalore, March, 29 : Tension prevailed for some time as members of various Dalit organisations staged a demonstration to protest against damage to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar statue at Shantinagar area in the city today. The trouble started when it was noticed that the statue made up of plaster of paris, had fallen down, in the early hours of today.
The agitators demanded that the culprits should be arrested immediatley.
However, the situation was brought under control and the protestors were pacified with an assurance that the statue would be reinstalled. Commissioner of Police Bharat Lal Meena, who visited the spot, gave the assurance.
Dalits took out procession and blocked traffic on the roads in Hubli also. They urged the state government to take immediate steps to apprehend the mischief mongers
