Greater Noida, September, 30 : Even as unprecedented security measures were put in place in western Uttar Pradesh before the Ayodhya verdict, a dalit woman was gang-raped and set on fire in Bulandshahr's Gulaoti area and a dalit minor was gang-raped at gunpoint in neighbouring Greater Noida.
The Bulandshahr victim sustained over 80% burn injuries. She has been admitted to a hospital in the capital and doctors say chances of her survival are bleak.
According to police sources, four persons abducted a woman from her home in Lahogla locality in Gulaoti on Tuesday evening. The four accused Saddam, Boora, Sajid and Majid are residents of two neighbouring villages. They took the woman to a secluded field in a village and raped her by turn.
Then, the four actually dropped the victim to her home threatening her to not inform the police. She told them she would get them arrested. Her younger sister had also been raped a few months ago.
Fearing imprisonment, the four men picked up a bottle of kerosene from the victim's house, poured it on her and set her afire. Police arrested two of the perpetrators, while two are absconding.
In the Gopalgarh area in Jewar in Greater Noida, a 15-year-old girl had gone to the fields to relieve herself on Wednesday evening when two Jat neighbours, Anuj Chowdhary and Lala, kidnapped her at gunpoint. They raped her at a nearby secluded spot. Both the men are absconding.
In another incident a 40-year-old dalit woman, who has five kids, was raped by 20-year-old Yogesh in Palenda in Greater Noida. The accused was known to the victim. The village panchayat gave her Rs 60,000 as compensation and tried to hush up the incident. When the victim was approached by police, she remained evasive.
