Dalit youth found murdered, police rule out caste angle

Chandigarh, August, 2 : A Dalit youth from Haryana's Jind district was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a village in adjoining Sonepat today, but police ruled out caste angle behind the crime. Vijender, who used to work at a farm in Nandgarh village in Jind, was found dead in the fields in a village in Sonepat district. He was engaged by a landowner, who is from the pre-dominant Jat community, a top police official said.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that Vijender along with a group of friends had consumed alcohol last night. His wife told us he had received a call from one Satyavan, who has emerged as the prime suspect, after which the victim had left the house," Jind's police chief Ram Singh told here.

He said Vijender's slippers and mobile phone were recovered from near his body. Ruling out any caste angle behind the incident, Singh said, "it's simply a case of murder. We are investigating the exact motto that led to the crime." He said some vested elements may try to give the incident a caste-color and try to create a discord between the communities "but we will deal with them strictly". A case was registered under various sections of the IPC against Satyavan and other unknown suspects and further investigations were on, the officer said.
